Red Eyed Blue Face

March 10th, 2007 · 2 Comments

This character face study was drawn with watercolor, pen, marker, and crayon.

Red eyed blue face character study

This blue face with red eyes was a striking image to see staring back at me when I finished the drawing. I was concentrating so hard on energetic line work that I didn’t step back to view the entire drawing until the end. Here is a detail.

Red eyed blue face character study detail

I started this character study with watercolor, lots of blue, and some red crayon. Then I started focusing intensely on black pen line work, and coloring the eyes with red, green, and yellow. I reworked the entire thing with a layer of blue marker and then washed parts with water. After a few white paint pen marks for highlights I called it a night.
