I'm still amazed at the tension between a blank canvas and myself a few moments before putting the first stroke on the page... what a nerve racking moment. If nothing more to define a good balance of elements on the page. I wish I did more, especially where it comes to a quick color study. I'm always so anxious to jump into it, but find the more preplanning I do -the easier the work goes. And I agree with you. The original sketches can sometimes be beautiful pieces on their own.
