Abstract Art, Expressive Pastel Drawings

April 14th, 2007 · 24 Comments

These are four works of expressive abstract art created with pastels. The color drawings are 9″ x 12″ and were created in the year 2004. Each is a tightly wound, but energetic, array of color and slight variations in texture. All are “Untitled” and are comprised of unique abstract geometric shapes.

Thank you for your comment. These are “Untitled” pastel and charcoal drawings. Sometimes, instead of titling abstract art, a preference is given to leaving it “Untitled”, and the art is allowed to speak for itself.

Hi Lilly, thank you for your comment. I was primarily inspired by pastel colors, as I had previously been working with only black, white, and sepia colors. While drawing I thought about vibrant bursts of pure color with slight variations in texture. Retrospectively, they are a visual representation of the “Big Bang” of an awaking awareness of color, which has been consistently applied in a more orderly fashion in subsequent artworks. For example, in this drawing of a face or more abstract surreal paintings.

Thank you for your kind comment Michelle. My own artistic momentum comes and goes too, but likewise, I have nurtured an appreciation for art in its many forms.
